LITERARY SUBCOMMITTEE

1.     The review committee (Geoffrey Leigh, Myrna David, Rebecca Simon, and Joan Osterman) have been reviewing the 22 stories already submitted. More have gone out for review and the final batch will be distributed this week some time, now that the deadline of June 28th has passed. We will hold our celebration event on September 26th in the Heritage Room from 5:30-7:00 pm.

2.     Our 3rd Handwritten Out Loud event was held on Sunday, June 9th from 4:00-6:00 pm. The event once again was sold out with a diverse group of poems, stories, and a song presented. We ended up with 16 presenters, although two were not able to make it that afternoon. A desire for additional events persists, but a future date has not been set.

3.    The 3rd Writing Celebration has been scheduled for January 14th, 2025, through March 25th, with a final celebratory evening on April 8th. We have begun informing potential participants of the opportunity to read, discuss, and use writing prompts to inspire writings by the participants. For this class, we will use Geoffrey Leigh’s second novel, The Catalyst Coalition. He is donating copies of the book for those who choose to participate.

4.    Plans continue to move forward with the Rex Pickett Event, scheduled for Thursday, August 29th. PJ is working on Merlot and Pinot Noir donations to be poured at the event. If you have any suggestions or could make contacts for possible donations, please let her know.

  • Filming at PRIDE kick-off Gallery Show for updated Yountville Pride Video
12.

PERFORMING ARTS SUBCOMMITTEE

Legacy Roundtable Series: We have recruited three bartenders for the mixology event on July 11th. Though we typically have  4 presenters, we will stick with three, as the program will be slightly more involved since they will each be mixing a craft cocktail at each table.

For the Author event on 10/17, our cup runneth over and we have FIVE authors who have agreed to participate! This puts us in good stead in case anyone bows out last minute.

We are still exploring an Artist event for 9/5 and will determine soon if this is feasible.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS / REPORTS

Other Updates: Open Studios will have two artists, Frank Trozzo and Michael Schaer, in the Plaza during the two weekends of September 21-22 and 28-29. Frank will keep the Gallery open on Sept 22, 28, & 29 as well as have his tent in the Plaza. It’s my understanding that Yountville artists
Andrea Cazares, Paul Youngman and Francine Knittle will also participate in their own home-studios giving Yountville a nice presence for the Open Studios event.
